WOODBURY: East Side Elementary School located at 970 Old McMinnville Hwy., Woodbury, TN, will cease on-campus learning on Mon., Jan. 31, 2022, and Tue., Feb. 1, 2022. Students may return to on-campus learning on Wed., Feb. 2, 2022. All East Side Elementary School students will be participating in distance learning during this time with specific details issued through the school and classroom teachers. The East Side Elementary School basketball games scheduled for Mon., Feb. 1, 2022, 6 PM at West Side Elementary School, will be rescheduled.
Director of Cannon County Schools, William Freddy Curtis said, “There has been a recent up-tick in the number of positive cases of COVID-19 with mainly teachers and support staff at East Side Elementary School this week. The following statistics as of Fri., Jan. 28, 2022 indicate:
Students: Total East Side Elementary School students = 152
Total positive cases and contacts = 10 students, or 7% of total students
Staff: Total 20 staff, full and part-time
Total positive cases and contacts = 10, or 50%.”
Curtis said, “We have been in consultation with the Tennessee Department of Education and have been approved for a COVID-19 relief waiver by Tennessee Education Commissioner, Dr. Penny Schwinn, to allow for virtual learning to take place on Mon., Jan. 31, 2022, and Tue., Feb. 1, 2022, for East Side Elementary School. These days will allow our custodial staff for additional deep cleaning and allowing time for these possible exposures and cases to diminish. Our East Side Elementary School students will transition to ‘distance learning’ on Mon., Jan. 31, 2022, and Tue., Feb. 1, 2022. East Side Elementary School students may return to “on-campus” learning on Wed., Feb. 2, 2022. Cannon County High School students living in the East Side Elementary School area will still have school bus service, departing from East Side Elementary School at the regular time, and the same occurring in the afternoon. Parents of East Side Elementary School students have been contacted by school officials via multiple means, and we sincerely appreciate their cooperation in these unprecedented times.
